Any sufficiently dedicated fan of Thomas Tallis is likely to already have the 10-disc set of his complete works issued on Signum in 2005. Though the price was relatively stiff, the performances of the English Renaissance composer's music by the Chapelle du Roi led by Alistair Dixon were so accomplished, so musical, so inspired, and so complete that few truly dedicated fans could resist it.But if any did, they will surely not be able to resist the same performances repackaged and reissued by Brilliant in 2008. Any sufficiently dedicated fan of Thomas Tallis is likely to already have the 10-disc set of his complete works issued on Signum in 2005. Though the price was relatively stiff, the performances of the English Renaissance composer's music by the Chapelle du Roi led by Alistair Dixon were so accomplished, so musical, so inspired, and so complete that few truly dedicated fans could resist it.But if any did, they will surely not be able to resist the same performances repackaged and reissued by Brilliant in 2008. The Brilliant set has all the advantages of the Signum set, and with the price a third of the original plus all the notes and texts included in a companion CD-ROM, it is even more attractive. Eight of the ten discs are devoted to Tallis' sacred choral works, and while the Chapelle du Roi's performances lack the emotional heat of the Tallis Scholars' performances of some of the same works, they are nevertheless models of clarity and intensity.
